Insight Meditation GroupThe Boulder community comes together at Mandala on Thursday nights to share mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness is the simple ability to know what is happening in the present moment. This Buddhist practice has tremendous benefits: it can decrease stress, improve one's relationships, and cultivate a deeply happy heart. Each class involves meditation, a dharma talk, and group discussion. The group leader, Peter Williams, has practiced meditation for 15 years in the Theravada and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. He is certified as a Community Dharma Leader by Jack Kornfield's Spirit Rock Meditation Center. Contact: peterbw@tds.net KirtanJoin us for an evening of group chanting! Traditionally, Kirtan is call and response chanting of Sanskrit mantras set to simple melodies designed to quiet the mind, deepen the breath and expand one's sense of conscious connection to self and Source. Our kirtans blend both western harmonies and guitar with traditional instruments: harmonium and tabla, to create a high energy, melodic evening of group chanting! Everyone, beginner and expert chanters are welcome! Qi GongClasses utilize a combination of gentle movement, attention to breath and visualization practices to access the vibratory nature within ourselves, and then to cultivate (gong) its energy (qi). Class LevelsAll LevelThese classes are designed for students of any level. Some comfort with the basic breathing and alignment principles is recommended. The pace is slightly faster than beginner classes, but variations are offered to meet the needs of all students. Level 1Perfect for beginners. In this well-rounded, moderate class we'll move through basic, warming and empowering postures. We'll also explore alignment and breath in a variety of postures. As a beginner you can challenge yourself, and as an experienced student you can refresh and fine-tune your practice. Level 1-2These classes are designed to take the basic principles learned in the Level 1 class and use them to help create a gentle flow and meditative quality through this mid-level class. Students will also learn to cultivate inner heat, showing them a deeper yoga experience. Level 2These intermediate yoga classes are designed for those with experience and who are ready to take their yoga to a new level. Full poses will be explored with flowing transitions that build heat, strengthen the nervous system, and cultivate mindfulness. Arm balancing, back bending, deep twisting, hip opening, inversions, and pranayama may be practiced. Level 3This advanced class is designed for the yoga practitioner with at least 6 months experience in intermediate classes. Advanced students, yogis and yoga instructors may attend to explore their personal practice through playful yet challenging asana poses. ::
