Structural Integration - with Judson Frost
In the Tradition of Dr. Ida P. Rolf"The mind is stored in the body and the body is stored in the mind." - Ida P Rolf Structural Integration assists in releasing the mind from the body and the body from the mind to enter a beingness and oneness with source. People's life changes, they look at the world differently, they become clearer, softer, more energized, more awake, and more vital. Bad habits fall away, people become more fertile, and they start living more form their purpose. As you come more into alignment with gravity, you become lighter, more spacious, more awake, and alert. The Ego softens it hold a little and more of your source is revealed, touching boundless love, joy, happiness, and fulfillment. What am I doing?I am reshaping the 3-dimensional tissue that encases all the bones, organs, nerves, muscles, arteries and veins. Everything is held in the tissue call Fascia. Fascia gives shape to the overall body and is pliable and malleable. It is like a rubbery substance the can be bunched up or smoothed and stretched out. It is also the pathways for the energy meridians of Acupuncture. The Energy Channels or Chi Meridians of Acupuncture actually match the same lines of Structural Integration, thus explaining the effect on organ and mind functions. Structural Integration opens up the energy channels in the body and mind, bringing greater health and vitality. The body is like a clay pot that can be reshaped and restructured, affecting organ function, energy flow, and emotional moods. Applying Yoga:I will show you how to stand in Alignment and I will give you tools to take home. Each session I will focus on a certain part of the body and ways to maintain that during the rest of your life. Your Yoga Practice will change and you will find yourself more open and more intimate with your body then ever before. I will encourage a yoga practice to further the openings that have been created. Is it Painful?Structural Integration should be done with in your pain tolerance. You should not be gritting your teeth and crying out in pain. You may feel some unpleasant sensations, but it should be done within your tolerance. This work actually feels good most of the time and you will leave feeling relief on many levels. Do I wear clothes? This work is done generally in your underwear and with a sheet for warmth. It is a hands on technique with out any oil or lotion. About Ida P. Rolf"This is the gospel of Rolfing: When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Then spontaneously, the body can heal itself." - Ida P Rolf In 1920, Ida Pauline Rolf received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. Despite the resistance she faced as a woman in the field of science, she furthered her knowledge of the body through research in organic chemistry at the Rockefeller Institute. Driven to find solutions to her own health problems as well as those of her two sons, she spent many years studying and experimenting with different systems of healing and manipulation. Throughout most of her life she was intrigued with and explored many forms of alternative healing including homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropractics and yoga. The notion that proper alignment, physiologic function and anatomical structure are related is the basis of many of these healing methods. Dr. Rolf agreed that the body functions best when the bony segments are in proper alignment. She added her observations that lasting improvement in alignment and an overall sense of well-being required a closer look at the effects of gravity on our bodies. She believed that the imbalances in structure placed demands on the body's pervasive network of soft tissues: muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments, thereby creating compensations throughout the body structure. Dr. Rolf posed this fundamental question: "What conditions must be fulfilled in order for the human body-structure to be organized and integrated in gravity so that the whole person can function in the most optimal and economical way?" Her life's work was devoted to this investigation which led to the system of soft tissue manipulation and movement education that we now call Rolfing. In order to pass along her work to others and to make the education process accessible, she developed an expedient series of ten sessions, which came to be known as the Ten Series. |
